Two Humboldt County residents involved in a head-on collision near Richardson Grove this morning were taken to a Garberville hospital with moderate injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Missy Munsell, 22, of Garberville, was driving a 1999 silver Toyota 4-Runner northbound on U.S. Highway 101, just south of Richardson Grove at about 8:45 a.m., the CHP stated in a news release. Craig Jacob, 60, or Carlotta, was driving a 1952 purple Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Hwy. 101 and as the two vehicles approached each other, Munsell allowed her Toyota to partially enter into the southbound lane and into the path of Jacob’s pickup, the CHP stated.
Jacob steered to the right to try to avoid a collision and the front end of Munsell’s Toyota struck the left side of his pickup, the CHP stated. The Toyota rotated in a counter-clockwise direction and overturned onto its roof, where it came to a rest blocking the southbound lane and part of the northbound lane, the CHP stated.
The pickup stopped in a ditch at the west side of the roadway and both drivers were taken to Jerold Phelps Hospital with moderate injuries.
Munsell was wearing a seat belt while Jacob was not, the CHP stated.
