A Hoopa man died early this morning when he collided with another vehicle on Route 96 near Loop Road, a California Highway Patrol press release stated.

At around 4 a.m., a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by April Ann Amador-Manilla, of Gerber, Calif, drove north on Route 96 until turning left on Loop Road, the release stated. As she made this turn, Ronald Ernest Reed, of Hoopa, crashed his 1983 Honda XR200R into her car as he drove south on Route 99.

The impact killed Reed, while Amador-Manilla was transported to Mad River Hospital for minor injuries.

CHP made no arrests relating to driving under the influence, and officers impounded both cars as evidence, as the investigation is ongoing.
