New faces victorious at the Strip

Some new faces had some impressive performances at the Napa Auto & Truck Parts Super Eliminator & Special “Slant 6” Class Race at the Samoa Drag Strip Sunday.

In the Super Pro Division, McKinleyville’s Jim Toledo won with a time of 11.24 seconds to defeat Rogue River’s Dennis Adkins (11.44 seconds).

Over in Pro, McKinleyville’s Troy Beck (11.32 seconds) got past Miranda’s Harlan Tucker (11.13 seconds) in the final.

It was in Sportsman that one of the new faces on the track, Blue Lake’s Duane Mayo, picked up a victory over track stalwart Mitch Marlin with a time of 14.65 seconds to Marlin’s 16.88 seconds.

Then, in Sportsman Motorcycle, Fortuna’s Kris Wohlers picked up a big victory over Shelter Cove’s Jame Surber with a time 11.01 seconds to best Surber’s 8.34 seconds.

And finally, in Junior Dragsters, Lolita’s Kaycee Mela (10.40 seconds) got past Fortuna’s Mike Pettit Jr. (8.44 seconds).

In other action at the Strip this weekend, Beck ran a perfect half-second reaction time. Also, a record was reportedly set at the “Slant 6” race.
