Almquist Lumber Co. will host the 19th annual College of the Redwoods WoodFair in partnership with the Humboldt Woodworking Society on July 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Almquist Lumber is located at 5301 Boyd Road, Arcata, just northeast of Arcata off Highway 299. Entrance to the event is free.
This year there will be a juried show of the work of local woodworkers. Entries include fine furniture, sculpture, musical instruments and more. There will also be vendor booths providing all kinds of wood and wood-related products, as well as food. A number of presenters will give demonstrations of woodworking techniques, tools and fine woodworking throughout both days.
Many local businesses and individuals are sponsoring prizes in the juried show in a number of categories, including Best of Show and Most Creative awards. The cash prizes are donated by these local businesses and individuals: Pierson Building Center, Forbes Cabinets, Green Diamond Resource Co., Wallace & Hinz, Cabinets by Andy, Almquist Lumber Co., College of the Redwoods Foundation, Northern California Safety Consortium, Marimba One, Custom Cabinets of Fortuna, John MacEvoy, Rosebud Woodworking, and the Humboldt Woodworking Society, to name a few.

WoodFair 2008 Seminar Schedule
July 26
11 a.m. – Marquetry demonstration by Susan Bicknell of Rosebud Woodworking. Bicknell will demonstrate a shop-built, foot-operated scroll saw and how to make marquetry inlays with shop-sawn veneers.
Noon – Festool demonstrations.
1 p.m. – Wood bending with Dennis Mussleman. He will demonstrate how to bend wood in the technique he uses to make Windsor chairs.
2 p.m. – Festool demonstrations.
3 p.m. – Wood turning with Bill McClay. McClay will demonstrate pen turning, tea lights and bowls.
4 p.m. – Festool tool demonstrations.
July 27
10 a.m. – Delta/Porter Cable/DeWalt tool demonstrations.
11 a.m. – Marquetry demonstration by Susan Bicknell (see Saturday explanation).
Noon – Festool demonstrations.
