Stuart Schneider was born at home on March 6, 1917, in Lorane, Ore. He grew up there and attended school there. He worked with his father and older brother in his father’s mill. He was married to Irene in 1942. They were married 66 years. He and Irene had four children, three girls and one boy. They moved to Humboldt County about four years after they were married. They lost their son, Eddie, in 2003 to ALS (Lou Gherig’s disease), a great loss and sorrow to the entire family.
Stuart started the Schneider Logging Co. at that time and later branched out to the Three Point Logging Co. His brother-in-law, Bill Brundage and lifetime friend Ernie Theuerkaufbecame his partners. Later, Bill sold his share to Stuart and this lasted most of his life. Stuart and Irene could call home Maple Creek, Orick and Blue Lake, Calif. It would be true to say that Stuart worked hard and played hard all of his life. He enjoyed life. He loved people and he was a very generous person. During his lifetime he and his family traveled to a good part of the United States and some of Canada. He and Irene, took their children to a large number of National and State Parks, monuments and institutions and museums; sometimes with a less than enthusiastic audience. He loved History. He took his family to Washington D.C., and toured everything even the White House and only left because they ran out of time. He has been quoted as saying ‘’we will be peeking over the rim at sunrise”-and sure enough that Christmas morning they were viewing the Grand Canyon in all of its winter splendor, just as the sun came up! Stuart was also an avid hunter and loved camping, which he encouraged his family and friends to do with him. He liked animals and at one time their home sported three cats, chipmunks, a deer, two dogs, some frogs, a pet chicken and some ducks. Stuart is left a large void in the lives of a lot of people, especially his family, when he passed from this life into the next one. He will be missed deeply.
