Officers from the Arcata Police Department and the Humboldt State University Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at the Gas-4-Less station on the corner of Spear Avenue and Alliance Road on Friday morning at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found that a storage shed had been entered and gas had been siphoned from U-Haul trucks parked at the business, an APD news release stated.
Nearby they encountered a man who provided suspicious information concerning his being at the gas station.
Officers learned that the man, Steven Tyson, 27, of Eureka, was wanted for a parole violation warrant and was taken into custody.
Officers were able to determine that Tyson had stolen approximately 20 gallons of fuel from the rental trucks and was in possession of burglary tools stolen from the business’s storage shed.
Tyson was also in possession of an additional 20 gallons of gasoline, several large fuel drums, pumping and siphoning equipment.
Tyson was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for the parole violation warrant, burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.
An investigation of his alleged involvement in other fuel thefts is continuing.
