Roger H. Weiss, HSU Professor of Chemistry, Emeritus, died July 22, 2008, after a long fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years — Anne. He is also survived by his sons, David and Paul; two grandchildren; and his sister Joan Hoff. He attended Cornell University on the G.I. Bill and received his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech University.

He was a loving husband and father, and a highly respected teacher who enjoyed every minute of his work. He was in indefatigable traveler and avid birder. These traits led him around the world and to sightings of over 1,000 species. His wife and sons were frequent companions during these trips, which brought them together as a strong family.

He was a gentleman, a scholar and a judge of good beer.

He and the family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave., Eureka, CA 95501.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 24 Fellowship Way, Bayside, Calif. at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. Friends are welcome. Arrangements are under the care of Paul’s Chapel of Arcata.
