Ocean council announces workshop

The Ocean Protection Council will hold a public workshop Tuesday in Eureka to discuss how California’s policies and practices may better protect salmon fisheries. The workshop will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Agriculture Center, 5630 South Broadway.

NOAA proposes rule to require angler registration

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Fisheries Service is seeking comment on a proposed rule that requires anglers and spearfishers who fish recreationally in federal ocean waters to be registered before fishing in 2009.

‘Fishery failure’ declared for West Coast salmon

By now I suppose you’ve heard there will be no ocean salmon season for much of the west coast. This summer there will be no salmon barbeques, no calling of friends on the spur of the moment to help eat the days catch of salmon, no smell of smoldering alder as salmon dries in the smokehouse.
