What works for some may not be the same for others

Published: Jul 19 2008, 12:04 AM

Dear Editor, Firstly, I want to wish Mr. Kerr and his wife “mazel tov” on their 53 years of marriage; however, neither his experience in this matter, his personal preference for not having a bed partner of the same sex or his advice on what sort of man/woman someone should look for has any bearing on other people’s situation. I could as well say that, as I drink coffee and have no interest in tea that everyone should just try adding milk, sugar, etc. to coffee and deal with it.

Vowing to abstain from abstinence

Published: Jul 18 2008, 12:41 AM

Dear Editor, On July 14, the Department of Health and Human Services proposed to define many forms of contraception as abortion. It wouldn’t take much of a further stretch of this imagination to drop the “forms” and classify all contraception as abortion. Many consider abortion to be a sin. I don’t want to offend them, so I will try my best not to commit one. How best to be sure? What is the most effective contraceptive? Abstinence! Thus, I vow to do my best to abstain from abstinence! Please pass the oysters!

Dear Editor, In response to Nathan Rushton’s recent comments in the Eureka Reporter that “We (Americans) are free from having to eat the oppressive British food,” my fellow group of British women and I, members of the local chapter of the “Daughters of the British Empire,” took offence to this comment and would like to inform Mr. Rushton that British food is far from “oppressive.” We invite him to purchase a copy of our recently published cookbook, “Sweets & Savories, British Heritage Recipes.”

Let all animals eat off of silver plates

Published: Jul 16 2008, 11:17 PM

Dear Editor, So the late Leona Helmsley left all her money to her dog that eats off of silver plates — Good! Friday’s editorial had apoplexy over the very idea. Maybe Ms. Helmsley preferred the unconditional love of her dog after being shafted by her own kind?
